A boom box bike is a bicycle ghettoblaster to play recorded music in public space. From gangs in Queens to Critical Mass rallies people construct these DIY ghettoblaster bikes. This one has an extra effect: speed of the music is set by the speed of biking.

In june DJette Samenonderweg used the boom bike to guide the people from the queer film festival Strange Love to the after party organised by NOORD FEESJES in Café De vogelzang.

In july, during an explorative residency in Hotel Charleroi, the boom box bike was upgraded to a tuned VERSION 2.

In january, a demo of the boomboxbike was showecased in the MAKE ME ECLECTIC! festival, Vienna - Museumsquartier. The boomboxunit (speakers and amplifier) is mounted on a foldable bike.

VERSION 3 / For each speaker a 7W amplifier kit of Velleman is used. The whole device is built in a waterproof pimped up casing.

VERSION 2 / For the sound, an amplifier with speaker is installed, running on a 12 volt battery. The triggering of the tempo of the music, is controlled by the magnet sensor of a bike speed computer (a reed switch + magnets attached on the spokes), an arduino and some code.
