Still life
Zorka Wollny and Roman Dziadkiewicz
video 13min, 2004

'The presentation by Zofia Wollny and Roman Dziadkiewicz is a subtle collaboration trail of two artistic personalities. Apparently static objects used in a video seem to be living their own life if only we stop with patient acceptance and let the hypnotic seance continue. The projection is a compilation of long sequences showing various kinds of items arranged into classic still lives. We are presented with a visual harmony resembling the Dutch masters, with sophisticated colours, textures and academic lighting. Is it an exercise given to the Fine Arts students? Quite the opposite - Wollny and Dziadkiewicz are pulling our leg and banter with the old masters, as the drapery finally slips down, the lid becomes an unidentified flying object, and the accordion starts to play by itself. Thus after a while our impatience turns into curiosity of what will happen in the next episode, in the following capture of the camera. The artists remind us that art is an ongoing revolution that allows no order or complacency. '
